Three subsidiary leaders talk about the impact of the crisis on their operations

On June 8, 2010, Investissement Québec and the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation du Québec (MDEIE) held a workshop on innovation and entrepreneurship in the context of an emerging recovery, as part of the International Economic Forum of the Americas, Conference of Montréal.

The workshop was attended by about a hundred people and was moderated by author and columnist Alain Dubuc. Participants had an opportunity to hear three distinguished guests speak: Pierre Gauthier, President and Chief Executive Officer, Alstom Canada and United States; Pierre Drolet, Vice President, Large Industries, Air Liquide Canada; and Christian Michaud, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Tata Communications.

The speakers explained how the crisis had affected their companies, and compelled them to redefine their business models and modify their strategies. Their presentations enabled subsidiary leaders to gain a better understanding of what parent companies expect from them at this juncture and to grasp the importance of defining new strategies in order to adapt to the changing landscape.

After a discussion period during which participants sought advice from the speakers, Louise Morin, Executive Vice-President, International Affairs for Investissement Québec, made some brief closing remarks. She presented Investissement Québec’s mission and service offering, and emphasized the importance of subsidiaries for Québec’s economy.
